We’ve been working with the National Theatre for over a year now to help them with their On Demand service. This service is free to all schools and makes it easy to watch world-class theatre with all-star casts by streaming productions directly to your school.

Treasure Island, Perfect for the Primary Audience

New to the service is an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island. A classic story of adventure, betrayal, and mutiny brought to life by Bryony Lavery’s thrilling adaptation. This production, filmed on the Olivier stage is perfect for the primary audience, particularly year 6 students.

For the Secondary English and Drama Audience

There is a collection of plays to help students develop their understanding of Shakespeare and other classic literature. Learning resources for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 are offered alongside productions with varying interpretive styles and casts of the highest calibre.

Included in these productions is Danny Boyle’s unique interpretation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller who make this gothic horror story jump off the page. As for Shakespeare, you’re spoilt for choice from Lenny Henry playing the lead in The Comedy of Errors, or choose from award winning productions of Othello and Hamlet.

By making these plays available to stream on demand in schools, the National Theatre is paving the way in bringing exceptional theatre to children in a modern way. Many schools don’t have the means, budget or opportunity to take children to see any theatre performances, let alone award-winning ones.

National Theatre: On Demand. In Schools makes theatre accessible all over the UK in a way it has never been before and Frog couldn’t be prouder to be involved. National Theatre’s On Demand service is completely free for schools to use. You can register here, and find out more here. So what are you waiting for… it’s time to instil a love for the arts in your school!
