Winter Lights & Festivals with Frog

As winter takes hold and the long nights and short days continue, Frog’s new Light in the Darkness site can assist you in giving students the chance to explore how communities around the world celebrate light during the darker months; helping them discover the richness of winter traditions beyond the familiar celebrations.

While Christmas often dominates this time of year, the site highlights other winter festivals, each with its own story, symbols and meaning. It encourages curiosity, cultural awareness and supports classroom discussions about the shared human experience of marking light and togetherness during winter.

With images and information about festivals from the bright lamps of Diwali to the glowing candles of Hanukkah, from Yule fires to Saint Lucia’s shining crowns, students can gain a wider understanding of different cultures, beliefs and traditions. The site also includes a short quiz covering both culture and science; allowing students to learn while engaging with the material in a more interactive way.

Teachers can share the site directly with students or edit as you wish and make use of the suggestion for students to design their own festival of light, helping them apply what they’ve learned creatively. As the year draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to explore these winter traditions in class.

Happy Holiday Season!

From all of us at Frog, we wish you a bright end to the term and a very happy holiday season, no matter which festivals you or your students celebrate.
