To mark this year’s National Storytelling Week, we’ve pulled together a dynamic mix of ideas to help classrooms explore this year’s theme: Soundtrack Your Story. The aim was to offer an inspiring starting point for teachers and students; helping to find creative ways to bring narratives to life through sound.
The site brings together links to a handy sound library students can draw on to lift their stories off the page. Whether it’s crafting atmosphere, experimenting with mood or giving characters their own sound identity, the collections offer plenty to spark imagination and support developing ideas. Alongside this, there are ready-to-go classroom activities that guide pupils through listening, sound design and imaginative sound exploration.

To help students get started with their writing, we’ve added story starters for both primary and secondary classes. These prompts are designed to get ideas moving quickly and help students step confidently into creating - whether they choose classic written storytelling or prefer to build a story from sound upwards.
While the resource has been created for Storytelling Week celebrations, it’s designed to last. A dedicated section offers year-round ideas for weaving sound and storytelling into the wider curriculum, from history and science to creative arts.
We hope the site gives you an inspiring springboard and offers students an engaging way to explore storytelling in all its forms. If you’re looking for fresh ideas for National Storytelling Week and the months that follow, check out the site now and see what it can bring to your classroom!
